8 Best Semrush Alternatives in 2026 (Including Lifetime Options)
Disclosure: SAASTOOLY earns a commission when you buy through some of the links on this page, at no extra cost to you. Semrush, Ahrefs and SE Ranking pricing was read from each vendor's pricing page on October 5, 2026, and lifetime-deal terms were checked on AppSumo the same day. Check current rates before you commit.
Semrush's cheapest plan is $139 a month. If you want to see how your brand appears in AI answers, the plan that includes it is $199.
Semrush restructured its plans for 2026. The entry SEO plan is $139 a month, or about $117 a month billed annually, for 5 websites and 500 keywords tracked daily. The Starter plan, which adds AI visibility tracking, is $199 a month. Pro+ is $299 and Advanced is $549. Extra users start at $45 a month each, on top of the plan.
For an agency or a content team that lives inside SEO data every day, that can be money well spent. Semrush has one of the deepest datasets in the industry. But for a small site making a few content decisions a week, it is a lot to pay every month for data you consult occasionally.
This guide covers eight alternatives: two subscription tools, a free stack, and four lifetime deals you pay for once. It also covers the trade-off every cheaper tool makes, which most roundups skip.
Why people actually leave Semrush
The price floor rose. Even billed annually, the entry plan costs about $1,400 a year ($117.33 × 12), or about $1,670 month to month, before adding a single user.
AI visibility costs extra. Tracking how AI search engines mention your brand sits on the $199 Starter plan and above.
Seats multiply the bill. Each extra user adds a monthly fee, which hurts small teams most.
Most of the data goes unused. Many small sites use keyword research, rank tracking and a site audit, and little else. Paying for the full suite to use three features is the core complaint.
The trade-off nobody mentions
Cheaper SEO tools are cheaper partly because their data is thinner. Expect smaller keyword and backlink databases, less frequent refreshes, and less accurate volume estimates for low-traffic keywords.
That matters less than it sounds for small sites. Your most reliable data source is free: Google Search Console shows the actual queries, impressions and clicks for your own site, straight from Google. Every tool below is best used alongside it, not instead of it.

Prices are entry tiers checked on October 5, 2026. Lifetime deals sell out and change price, so confirm on each listing.
1. WriterZen — keyword research through to published content
Price: $79 once (one code: 50 keyword lookups a day, 50 articles a month), stackable to five codes Best for: bloggers, solo founders and small content teams
It leads this list because it covers the work most small sites actually use Semrush for, keyword and topic research feeding content, at a one-time price, and it has the strongest review record of the lifetime options here: 4.63 stars from 272 reviews.
WriterZen combines topic discovery, keyword research, clustering and an AI writing assistant in one workflow. Its codes stack: buying more codes raises your daily lookups and monthly article limits.
Honest caveats. Fifty keyword lookups a day is plenty for a blogger and tight for an agency. The founder has said in the deal Q&A that there are no plans for an API, so it will not feed your own dashboards. And like every tool here, its data is thinner than Semrush's at the long tail.
2. Nuwtonic SEO — for AI search visibility
Price: $69 once Best for: sites that want to track and improve how AI answer engines mention them, without paying Semrush's $199 tier
Nuwtonic connects to Google Search Console, flags on-page gaps, generates fixes, and monitors AI citations of your brand. That AI-visibility angle is exactly what Semrush now charges $199 a month to include. It has 4.79 stars from 82 reviews and evolved from an earlier product, which is a useful sign of staying power.
Honest caveats. AI-visibility tracking is a young category everywhere, and methods change quickly. Treat its AI metrics as directional rather than precise. Its price was $59 during AppSumo's AI Week and $69 afterwards, and had a "price increases" countdown when we checked, so the current figure may not last.
3. Screpy — the most-reviewed all-in-one dashboard
Price: $59 once (up to three stackable codes, $59 to $177) Best for: small sites and agencies that want audits, rank tracking and monitoring in one place
Screpy has the largest review base of any SEO lifetime deal we track: 4.6 stars from 913 reviews. It covers technical audits and crawling, keyword rank tracking across devices and locations, Google Search Console integration, Core Web Vitals and PageSpeed monitoring, uptime monitoring and white-label PDF reports.
Honest caveats. It is a dashboard for your own sites, not a deep competitive research database. AppSumo notes this listing is partner-managed and does not carry AppSumo's standard "We Got Your Back" guarantee, although the 60-day refund still applies. Read that difference in the deal terms before you buy.
4. Labrika — recommendations rather than raw data
Price: $68 once, stackable tiers with monthly crawl and ranking credits Best for: owners who want to be told what to fix, not handed a data dump
Labrika compares your site with top competitors and turns the analysis into actionable content and technical recommendations, with rank checking and reports. It has 4.76 stars from 157 reviews.
Honest caveats. Credits are monthly, so a large site can run through them. Like Screpy, it is partner-managed and lacks AppSumo's "We Got Your Back" guarantee, so check the deal terms.
5. Ahrefs — the other heavyweight, with a cheaper door
Price: Starter $29/month; Lite $129/month (5 projects, 750 tracked keywords, 1 user); Standard $249; Advanced $449; Enterprise $1,499 Best for: anyone whose work depends on backlink data
Ahrefs is Semrush's closest rival on data depth, and it is especially strong on backlinks. Two things make it a real alternative rather than a sideways move. First, the $29 Starter plan is an inexpensive way into its data for light users. Second, Ahrefs Webmaster Tools is free for sites you own, with site audits and backlink data for your own domains.
Honest caveats. The full plans cost about the same as Semrush, and extra users are billed per seat ($40 to $80 a month depending on plan). Moving from Semrush to Ahrefs Lite saves little; the savings come from the Starter plan or the free tools.
6. SE Ranking — the closest full-suite match for less
Price: Core about $103/month billed annually (about $129 monthly); Growth about $223/month billed annually; AI Search add-on about $71/month Best for: agencies and in-house teams that need a full suite but not Semrush's price
SE Ranking covers rank tracking, keyword and competitor research, backlinks and audits. Its Core plan includes 10 projects, 2,000 keywords tracked daily and unlimited keyword, competitor and backlink research, which is generous against Semrush's entry plan. There is a 14-day free trial with no card required.
Honest caveats. The database is smaller than Semrush's or Ahrefs'. AI-visibility tracking, white-label reporting and API access are add-ons, so price the plan you would actually use.
7. Backlink Monitor — for watching your own links
Price: $69 once Best for: sites that build links and want to know when they disappear or stop being indexed
A narrow tool: it tracks the backlinks you have, checks whether they are still live and indexed, and alerts you to losses. That is one of the jobs people keep Semrush or Ahrefs for. It has 4.63 stars from 30 reviews, a smaller sample, so read the Q&A and recent reviews before buying.
Honest caveat: it monitors links you already know about. It is not a database for discovering competitors' backlinks.

8. The free stack — enough for many small sites
Price: $0 Best for: new and small sites, and anyone testing whether they need a paid tool at all
- Google Search Console for real queries, clicks, impressions and indexing issues.
- Ahrefs Webmaster Tools for site audits and backlinks to your own site.
- Semrush's free plan, which allows 10 reports a day across its tools, for occasional keyword and competitor checks.
- Google Keyword Planner for broad volume ranges.
Many sites under a few hundred visits a day can run on this for months. Add a paid tool only when a specific question keeps going unanswered.

The migration reality check
Your historical data does not move. Rank history, past audits and saved keyword lists stay in Semrush. Export what you need before cancelling, especially rank tracking history, which you cannot recreate.
Numbers will not match. Every tool estimates search volume and difficulty differently. A keyword showing 1,000 searches in one tool may show 600 in another. Pick one tool for trends and stick with it; use Search Console for your own truth.
Run both for one month. Track the same keywords in the old and new tool, compare, then cancel.
Rough time estimate: an afternoon for one site; a few days for an agency with many client projects and reports.
The practical implication: switching to save $20 a month is rarely worth losing your rank history. Switching to escape a $139+ bill you barely use, or a per-seat bill for a small team, usually is.
Which one should you pick?
You mainly research keywords and write content → WriterZen.
You want AI-search visibility without the $199 plan → Nuwtonic SEO.
You want audits, rank tracking and monitoring for your own sites → Screpy.
You want clear "fix this next" guidance → Labrika.
Your work depends on backlink data → Ahrefs (Starter, or the free Webmaster Tools for your own sites).
You need a full suite for clients, for less → SE Ranking.
You are a small or new site → the free stack first; buy something only when it stops answering your questions.
You use Semrush daily across many clients → stay. Its data depth is the reason it costs what it does.

Frequently asked questions
What is the cheapest alternative to Semrush? The free stack (Google Search Console, Ahrefs Webmaster Tools and Semrush's own free plan) costs nothing. For paid tools, Ahrefs Starter is $29 a month, and lifetime deals such as Screpy ($59) and WriterZen ($79) are one-time payments.
How much does Semrush cost in 2026? As of October 2026, the SEO plan is $139 a month (about $117 billed annually), Starter with AI visibility is $199, Pro+ is $299 and Advanced is $549. Extra users start at $45 a month.
Is there a Semrush alternative with no monthly fee? Yes. WriterZen, Nuwtonic SEO, Screpy, Labrika and Backlink Monitor were sold as one-time purchases on AppSumo when we checked. Their data is thinner than Semrush's, which suits small sites better than agencies.
Is Ahrefs cheaper than Semrush? At the full-plan level they are similar. Ahrefs' $29 Starter plan and free Webmaster Tools are the cheaper ways in.
Are lifetime SEO tools accurate? They are useful for direction but generally use smaller databases with less frequent updates. Use Google Search Console for your own site's real data.
Will I lose my data if I leave Semrush? Rank history and saved projects stay in Semrush. Export them before you cancel.
Are lifetime SEO tools risky? The risk is vendor survival. Use the 60-day refund window as a real trial, export your data regularly, and check our 10-point checklist.
