AppSumo Plus Review: Which of the Three Plans Is Worth It?
AppSumo Plus used to be one plan: $99 a year, take it or leave it. That is no longer true. There are now three plans — a monthly option with no annual commitment, the familiar annual plan, and a new Pro tier at double the price with a longer protection window.
Which one makes sense depends entirely on how many deals you buy and how long you plan to stay subscribed. This review breaks down all three.
The three plans
| Monthly | Annual | Pro | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Price | $12/month | $99/year ($8.25/mo) | $199/year ($16.58/mo) |
| 10% off every order | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Free KingSumo + SendFox Tier 1 | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Early Access, Last Call & Extended Access | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| The Sauce community + 50+ masterclasses | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| VIP support, 2x faster response | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| $100 in coupons ($25 every 90 days) | No | Yes | Yes |
| We Got Your Back coverage | 1 year | 1 year | 2 years |
| Refundable | No | No | No |
A few things worth flagging immediately, because they changed the whole shape of the decision.
All three plans are now explicitly non-refundable subscriptions. Not "non-refundable once rewards are used" as before — the plans page now states plainly that all Plus plans are subscriptions and are not refundable. Deals you buy while a Plus member still carry their own refund window; the membership fee itself does not.
The Monthly plan does not include the quarterly coupons. This is the biggest structural change. Coupons were previously just part of Plus. Now they are an Annual and Pro benefit only. If you are comparing Monthly to Annual on price alone, you are comparing two different products.
Purchase protection has a name now — "We Got Your Back" — and Pro gets twice the coverage window. If a Select-badge vendor shuts down, Annual and Monthly members get covered for one year from purchase; Pro members get two years.
Support is explicitly faster for members now. VIP support with 2x faster response times is a new, named benefit, not implied.
What you actually get, across all three
Every plan includes the same base perks:
- 10% off every order, applied automatically
- Free KingSumo and SendFox, Tier 1, for as long as you are a member
- Early Access, Last Call, and Extended Access — first look at new deals, and more time to decide after the general-access countdown ends
- The Sauce community, plus 50+ recorded masterclasses and event sessions
- VIP support, roughly twice the response speed of standard support
What separates the tiers is coupons and protection length, covered below.
Running the numbers on each plan
Monthly — $12/month, $144/year
No coupons, one year of shutdown protection. This plan exists for people who are not sure they will stay a member, or who want to try Plus for a month around a big sale without a year-long commitment.
The maths is straightforward and not flattering. At $144 a year, Monthly costs 45% more than Annual for a strictly smaller set of benefits — you lose the $100 in coupons while paying more overall. There is no scenario where staying on Monthly for a full year beats switching to Annual, unless you specifically expect to cancel within a few months.
When Monthly makes sense: you want Plus for a single upcoming sale — Black Friday, Sumo Day — and plan to cancel after. At $12 for one month, that is a clean way to get early access and the discount for a defined window without committing further.
When it does not: anything longer than two or three months. Switch to Annual before then.
Annual — $99/year, the plan most people should compare against
This is the plan the whole "is Plus worth it" question has always been about, and the arithmetic is largely unchanged from before.
Break-even, using AppSumo's own example: at $1,350 of annual deal spend, the 10% discount saves $135, the coupons return $100, and the $99 fee nets you +$136 for the year. That is AppSumo's own stated example on the pricing page, not an estimate.
Run it at lower spend:
Two deals a year at roughly $59 each ($118 total). Discount saves about $12. Coupons only help if your purchases land in separate quarters and each clears the coupon minimum — realistically you use one, maybe two. Net: you likely lose $30–50 on the membership. Skip it.
Four to five deals a year (roughly $250–300 total). Discount saves $25–30. If you use all four coupons, that is $100 more. Net positive, generally by $25–50, before counting the community, faster support, or protection. Worth it.
$1,000+ a year. The discount alone covers most or all of the fee. Everything else is margin. Clear yes.
The break-even point is still roughly three to four deals a year, and it still depends on actually using the coupons. That part of the calculation has not changed. What has changed is that this plan is now explicitly compared against Monthly (worse value at any real volume) and Pro (better protection, double the price).
Pro — $199/year, the new tier
Pro adds exactly one thing over Annual: the We Got Your Back window extends from one year to two. Everything else — discount, coupons, community, support speed — is identical to Annual.
That means Pro is a bet on a single variable: the odds that a Select-badge tool you buy fails specifically in year two rather than year one.
For most buyers, this is a bad trade. You are paying an extra $100 a year for protection that only pays out if a vendor survives twelve months and then fails in the following twelve — a fairly narrow window. Buyers who track lifetime deal portfolios generally report that failures cluster earlier rather than later; a tool that survives its first year is more likely to keep surviving than to fail in year two specifically.
Where Pro can make sense: if you buy a large number of Select deals every year — meaningfully more than the four to five that justify Annual — the extra protection window has more chances to pay out, and the $100 premium is smaller relative to your total spend. This is an agency-volume decision, not a typical-buyer one.
For nearly everyone else, Annual captures almost all the value at half the price.
🎯 Count what you actually bought

The benefit worth more than the discount, on any paid plan
Everyone fixates on the 10%. The stronger benefit is We Got Your Back.
If a Select-badge vendor shuts down within the coverage window, you get back 100% in AppSumo Credits — on Annual or Monthly, that is one year; on Pro, two. Compare that to a non-member's position: nothing beyond the standard 60-day refund window.
That effectively extends your evaluation period on your riskiest purchases from two months to a year (or two, on Pro). Given that a meaningful share of lifetime deal vendors do not survive long-term, this is worth more than the discount and coupons combined for anyone buying Select deals regularly.
The limits are unchanged in substance: it applies only to Select deals, refunds arrive as credits rather than cash, and credits cannot be applied to your Plus renewal.
What is still overrated
Early Access and Extended Access. Seeing a deal first, or getting extra time to decide, does not make it a better deal. If anything, extra decision time is more useful for avoiding an impulse buy than for enabling one — use it that way.
Free KingSumo and SendFox. Real value only if you run giveaways or send newsletters. Zero value otherwise. Do not count it in your maths unless you can name what you will use it for this quarter.
The Sauce community and masterclasses. Useful to some, treated as background noise by others. A bonus, never a reason to subscribe on its own.
Who should buy which plan
Buy nothing yet if you have not bought your first few deals. You cannot judge your own purchase rate from zero data. Buy deals for a few months, then revisit this page.
Monthly if you want Plus for a specific upcoming sale and plan to cancel afterward. Do not let it run past two or three months — Annual is cheaper the moment you are staying longer than that.
Annual for almost everyone who buys three or more deals a year and will remember to use the quarterly coupons. This remains the plan with the best value-to-commitment ratio.
Pro only if you are buying at agency volume and specifically want the longer Select protection window. For a typical buyer, the extra $100 is better spent on another deal.
