AppSumo Sumo Day: How the Big Mid-Year Sale Works and How to Shop It

Sumo Day is AppSumo's big mid-year sale, which AppSumo itself calls its "biggest sale of the season". For a few days, a large batch of lifetime deals gets an extra discount, Plus members get a little more, and the countdown timers come out.

What Sumo Day is
Sumo Day is a sitewide promotion on AppSumo covering software for automation, site building, AI, productivity and more. It combines two things:
- An event discount on participating deals, on top of their already-reduced lifetime prices.
- Extra perks for AppSumo Plus members, such as their member discount on top and, in some years, exclusive products and extended access.
It is one of several recurring AppSumo events, alongside AI Week, Plus Week, Last Call and Black Friday.
When Sumo Day runs
Sumo Day has historically run in early-to-mid June for about four or five days. AppSumo's own FAQ documents one edition precisely: it ran from June 9, 2024 (4 pm CT) to June 13, 2024 (noon CT), with Plus members getting extended access until June 14 at noon CT.
AppSumo announces each year's dates itself, so treat June as the likely window rather than a guarantee, and check AppSumo's Sumo Day page in late May.
How the discount works
AppSumo's FAQ describes the mechanics this way:
- Non-members: the Sumo Day discount varies by product.
- Plus members: the standard 10% Plus discount applies on top of the Sumo Day discount.
For 2026, a creator-focused write-up reported that AppSumo told participating vendors the event included 10% off sitewide and 19% off for Plus members. That is consistent with how two sequential 10% discounts combine to 19% rather than 20%, which we explain in our guide to getting 19% off AppSumo. Treat it as reported rather than confirmed by AppSumo's own pages.
The rules that catch people out
Coupons do not combine with sitewide promotions. AppSumo's FAQ states that coupons cannot be combined with sitewide promotions such as Sumo Day, apart from the standard Plus member 10%. If you are holding a quarterly Plus coupon, use it outside the event, or compare which saves more on your specific order.
Not every product qualifies equally. The FAQ notes that some items, such as physical products or conference tickets, may have restrictions, while most digital products qualify.
Plus-exclusive products exist. In 2024, AppSumo listed specific products available only to Plus members during the event. Check whether a tool you want is in that group before assuming you can buy it.

How to shop Sumo Day well
The biggest Sumo Day risk is not a bad discount. It is volume: dozens of deals, all discounted, all on countdowns, at the same time. A few rules keep that under control.

2. Set one budget for the whole event. Decide it before the sale opens and stop when you reach it.
3. Decide on Plus before the sale. If you are going to join, join a day or two before, so the member discount applies to your whole order. Our Plus review runs the break-even for each plan.
4. Run every deal through the same five gates. Does it replace a bill? Does it pay back within about six months? Can you export your data? Is the founder shipping and answering questions? 5. Protect the purchase afterwards. Redeem on day one, use the tool on real work within two weeks, and decide by day 50 whether to keep it or refund it.

Is it worth waiting for Sumo Day?
Only if a purchase is not urgent. If a tool replaces a bill you are paying now, every month you wait costs that bill, which can easily exceed the extra 10%. If you are browsing without a specific need, waiting for Sumo Day costs nothing, and the event discount is a pleasant bonus rather than a reason to buy.
